I came home for lunch today and turned the television on CNN to see throngs of joyous people in Cairo celebrating the departure of Hosni Mubarak from power after holding its reins for three decades. I started following the story shortly after the protests in Tunisia that dislodged the leader of that country from power, and there has been a lot of coverage of the Egyptian protests online and in the mainstream media.
One of the analysts on CNN made the comment that revolutions often eat their children, and he cited the example of the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution and the Iranian Revolution, which became bloody affairs. At the moment, however, with scenes of people dancing in the streets of Cairo, it is hard not to be happy for them.
