View From the Top

Here's what the Statue of Liberty sees on Independence Day, and every day for that matter, from the National Park Service. Below her tablet you can see one of the points of Fort Wood, which was completed in 1811. The statue was completed in France in 1884, then shipped in pieces to New York. She arrived in 1885 and was dedicated in 1886. I've been up in the crown, where this photograph was taken, but not in the torch, which was closed when I was there as a child.

Happy Fourth of July, Americans!
