St. Edward wrestler Jamie Clark

Jamie Clark
St. Edward senior wrestler Jamie Clark, a two-time state champion who originally committed to Iowa State, instead will wrestle for Illinois.

Clark, ranked No. 1 nationally by Amateur Wrestling News in the 119-pound weight class, last winter committed to Iowa State, where four-time NCAA champ Cael Sanderson was coaching. When Sanderson left for Penn State, Clark changed his mind. Illinois is coached by two-time St. Edward state champ Jim Heffernan (1981-82).

Two other Eagles senior wrestlers announced their college decisions Tuesday. Two-time state runner-up Nick Sulzer (152 pounds) has chosen Virginia, while state third-placer Anthony Salupo (135) will attend Lehigh.
Sulzer, 40-3 last season, was a Junior National freestyle champion this past summer. Salupo, 43-4 last season, clinched the Eagles' 13th consecutive state team title last season with his third-place victory over Scott Mattingly of Uniontown Lake.

Wildcats fall in poll: Despite defeating St. Francis (N.Y.), 30-14, St. Ignatius' football team slipped from fifth to sixth in the National Top 25 Prep Poll and remains one of two Ohio schools given the honor. Cincinnati Elder is ranked 12th.

St. Ignatius is still the top-ranked team in the Midwest Region Top 10, followed by Elder, Glenville, Cincinnati Moeller, Cincinnati St. Xavier and Dublin Coffman in second, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively
