Sarah, our first grade student, started reading a storybook version of Alice in Wonderland the day before yesterday. By the time she got home from school yesterday, she had read 160 or so pages of it. I'm pleased to see the child is starting to read for pleasure.
As a child and a young man, I was a voracious reader, and I spent summers with my nose in a book. All of the textbook reading associated with college and law school killed off pleasure reading for me, though I have been reading more in an attempt to get back in the habit of reading and to set a good example for Sarah and Jake and Joey.
