I always keep an eye open for food to feed my stepsons, Jake and Joey, when they visit. At fifteen years old, the boys can pack in some food these days, and we enjoy cooking for them. Joey has a reputation as a picky eater, though that has changed as he's gotten older. Now his sister, Sarah, is the picky eater.
Joey has always liked Italian meatball sandwiches, and I suspect that Smitten Kitchen's version, pictured above, would go over well with both boys (though Sarah wouldn't come anywhere near it). The recipe includes caramelized onions, which helped sell me on it.
