Yesterday was Valentine’s Day here in Brazil {or Dia dos Namorados, for you Portuguese speakers}. Who doesn’t love two Valentine’s Days in one year?

We didn’t really do anything elaborate, but we did try a new restaurant on Saturday afternoon, which ended up being a winner, and topped it off with waffles and frozen yogurt.

Today’s song is just a favorite classic celebrating good old fashioned love.

         As Americans, we always hear that we take the little things for granted, and it wasn’t until I was in Brazil for3 hours that I realized that indeed we do.  Take the simple act of using the restroom and afterwards throwing your used tissue into the toilet and flushing it.  We repeat this act countless times throughout the day and it’s something that is “Normal” to us.  It is a part of our everyday routine.  Most of us have never stopped to think “Hey what if our septic system wasn’t good enough for even one-ply toilet paper” (let alone the two-ply that many of us use).  Well here in Brazil that simple, everyday process happens to be a little different.  Instead of tossing your used toilet paper into the toilet to be flushed, you place it into the huge tin trash can seated right next to you.  Yep that’s right…ALL used toilet paper, regardless of the “number” you performed while seated on that toilet seat goes into one trash can that gets taken out whenever the housekeeping arrives, or in the case of your own home…whenever you take it out.  There are things as small as throwing our used toilet paper into the toilet to be flushed that we take advantage of, but imagine life without the little things.  Big things are made from many little things.  Next time you’re using the restroom be thankful for the fact that you can clog your toilet with toilet tissue and nine times out of ten it will still flush.  Be thankful that there isn’t a can of used tissue sitting next to you as you perform your daily duties.  Be thankful for the little things!

#2: Don’t stick your hand in a closing Brazilian elevator door….it will not stop!
