Sarah's Big Day at the Justice Center

I usually don't write about the judicial system here because this is, after all, mainly a daddy blog about my family, but I will make a bit of an exception today. Our legal community has been grieving the recent death of Circuit Judge W. Dale Young. Today Governor Haslam was in town to administer the oath of office to Judge Young's successor, Tammy Harrington, whom I have known and respected since she came to the Blount County District Attorney's office in 1994, the year after I came to practice in Maryville. In part because Judge Harrington is Blount County's first female judge and someone Sarah knows from the year I worked in the District Attorney's office, I felt that it was important for Sarah to attend the oath ceremony with me. Not only did Sarah get to see the Governor and all the other important dignitaries at the event, but we also rode the elevator up to the third floor of the justice center with Coach Phillip Fulmer and his wife. Sarah was most excited, however, to see her friend Rick, who serves as a court officer and who has developed a special friendship with the child.

UPDATE: The Daily Times says 1996, not 1994. I stand corrected.
