31 Things I Love About Halloween: Trick or Treating

Beyond the nostalgia of wanting to treat our kids to the same kind of Halloween experience that we had at their age, Trick or Treating serves an important purpose. When nostalgia is all parents care about, we can rationalize that kids can get that same experience by dressing up and going to the mall or the grocery store or the church parking lot. And maybe they can. I'm not going to argue against it.

But what I will argue is that doing that robs us - and our kids - of the most crucial part of the entire exercise. Halloween has always been about facing our fears and in our current culture, one of the things we're most afraid of is each other. I'm happy to blame this on the 24-hour news cycle and the ratings-crazed fear-mongering that goes with it, but whatever the reason, people are afraid to get out and meet their neighbors. We even create urban legends around Halloween to express how unsafe we find the whole thing. Did you hear about that guy who put razor blades in the apples he was handing out? Or the creepy lady who injected cyanide into Snickers bars?

Trick or Treating is one of the last neighborhood social activities we have left. It would be a serious shame to give in to our fears and abandon it for the "safety" of a corporate-sponsored replacement.

Flick Attack!

Flick Attack is a new blog by the folks behind Bookgasm, the awesome book review blog. They can explain what Flick Attack's about much better than I can:
We’ll have no news. No scoops. No rumors. No set reports. Just one kick-ass review a day, Monday through Friday, with the occasional article on Saturday to make your weekend that much awesomer.

Yep, that’s right: Every day you get one review, so take it or leave it. While everyone else pees their pants over the latest multiplex releases, we’re gonna dig through our archives and toss out something that’s not playing a theater near you. Maybe you’ve heard of it; maybe you haven’t; maybe it’s easy to find; maybe it’s not — doesn’t matter. You will read it, and you will like it.

So if you like discovering cinematic trash-terpieces, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got horror, sci-fi, action, kung fu, comedy and sex. But no drama. If it’s tears you want, we’ll be happy to kick you in the shin.
And they're letting me play with them. My first review - for the Bela Lugosi masterpiece (and possible origin of vampires' saying "Bleh!") My Son the Vampire - went up last Monday.

Food or Comics?

WWE salutes the WWE Universe with Fan Appreciation Day

John Cena def. World Heavyweight Champion Kane by Disqualification (PHOTOS)
With Kane’s scheduled opponent Big Show winning an Intercontinental Title Match in the event’s opening Battle Royal, Raw’s anonymous General Manager and SmackDown GM Theodore Long chose a surprise replacement for Kane’s title defense. When the opening chords of John Cena’s music played, the XL Center fans jumped to their feet with a deafening roar!
The match was cut short when Cena put Kane in the STF and Nexus raided the ring, resulting in a disqualification. Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, David Otunga and Heath Slater then attacked Cena. The heinous assault prompted WWE Champion Randy Orton to rush the ring, followed by the entire WWE locker room, led by Triple H!
With The Game, The Viper, Cena and Big Show left standing in the ring, Cena thanked the crowd for supporting WWE and its Superstars and Divas, while many of the roster spread out into the crowd for autographs and photos with the WWE Universe as the show ended.
“From each of us, who do this each and every week because we love it, thank you,” Cena said.

WWE Champion Randy Orton def. Wade Barrett (PHOTOS)
Just weeks before the WWE Champion and the leader of The Nexus square off at Survivor Series, The Viper fought off members of Barrett’s faction and survived being hit with his own title to hang onto his championship. In the end, Orton countered Barrett’s Wasteland attempt and struck with a thunderous RKO to pick up the pinfall victory – much to the delight of the legion of Orton fans in attendance, holding their signs of support throughout the contest.

Melina wins WWE Divas Dance-off (PHOTOS)
What’s a true celebration without dancing? WWE’s smart, sexy and powerful Divas took the spotlight on Fan Appreciation Day to compete for top dance honors. It was tought, but there was no a “split” decision by fans inside Hartford’s XL Center, who voted Melina the winner over Natalya, Melina, Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, Layla, Maryse and Alicia Fox.

After the dance-off and a brief brawl that ensued between the contestants, Santino Marella came to ringside to show off his fleet-of-feet dance moves. He may not win any dance contests any time soon, but Santino certainly won over the fans, several of whom could also be seen dancing around their seats.

10/30/10 WWE Fan Appreciation Day show

The Raw general manager chimed in via email to announce that there would be a Diva Dance Off. Melina won the dance off via fan vote with the sexy split. Kelly Kelly, Natalya, Gail Kim, Layla, Marise, and Alicia Fox were also involved. A fight broke out afterward between the heels and face Divas. Santino Marella came out and danced for the crowd.

4. Randy Orton defeated Wade Barrett to retain the WWE Championship. Nexus came out to interfere, but Orton ended up hitting the RKO to win.

7. Kane retained the the World Hvt. Championship over John Cena by DQ. Late in the match, Cena had Kane up for the STF when Nexus interfered. Orton ran out to rescue Cena. He was followed by the WWE crew, led by Triple H, and they attacked Nexus. Hunter hit the Pedigree on Sheamus. Orton hit the RKO on David Otunga. Big Show chokeslammed a heel, and Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment on Barrett.

31 Things I Love About Halloween: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown isn't the only Halloween special we watch every year, but it sure is the best. We watch it every Halloween night during dinner before David and Diane head out for Tricks or Treats.

We also live by it's profound advice: "There are three things I have learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin" and "Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker."

Smackdown vs Raw 2011 thoughts

This game is GREAT for anyone who owns a game console and hasn't bought this yet, BUY IT. The game play is much better, Road to Wrestlemania's are good, the backstage area is great, WWE Universe is good and the superstars in the game are very well created, there is less chance of lag now online, i noticed that in an online Royal Rumble match in which i almost won. The Hell in a Cell matches are better and so are the TLC matches. Money in the Bank matches aren't as hard but they are not easy. Some good RTWM storylines i have done 3/5 already and i got it yesterday (UK). Some new scenes are available in the create a storyline mode, one problem with it is the menu music i don't think you can change it but i love  hearing The Miz and Cody Rhodes theme playing... sorry "Dashing" Cody Rhodes. The Nexus are not in it and Otunga, Gabriel and Barrett you can download later this year plus Layla and the NXT arena, its rumored Daniel Byran will be available to download later this year possibly. Great Game!

WWE Survivor Series 2010 preview

At Survivor Series, Nexus leader Wade Barrett will once again clash with WWE Champion Randy Orton for sports-entertainment’s top prize in a match officiated by none other than John Cena. As stipulated by Raw’s anonymous General Manager, there will be no count-outs and no disqualifications in this high-stakes encounter.
Barrett earned the right to choose the special guest referee in this WWE Title rematch on Monday Night Raw, when his intervention in a bout between Cena and Orton led to The Viper’s disqualification. Ultimately, Barrett chose Cena to don the black-and-white stripes, decreeing that if Cena raises Barrett’s hand in victory at Survivor Series, the nine-time World Champion will be freed from The Nexus. (PHOTOS | WATCH)
However, if the Nexus leader doesn’t win, then Cena will be fired. As much as Barrett’s motives run contrary to Cena’s basic virtues of hustle, loyalty and respect, being partial to Barrett in this bout will guarantee the Legendary star his freedom. Defiance will result in Cena saying farewell to the WWE Universe once and for all.
Should Cena award Barrett the WWE Title at Survivor Series, this will be the second time he has helped The Nexus capture championship gold. At WWE Bragging Rights, Cena shockingly teamed up with David Otunga to win the WWE Tag Team Titles, championships that were later turned over to fellow arm-banded rebels Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater. This victory has only fueled Barrett’s thirst for the WWE Title and the power that comes with it.
Even though the odds are clearly stacked against Orton, The Viper – a six-time WWE Champion – has established himself as one of the most dominant and dangerous competitors in WWE history. As the critically injured Chris Jericho and any number of Superstars can attest, one does not tempt the animalistic aggression of WWE’s Apex Predator.
With liberation from The Nexus on the line, will Cena help Barrett win his first WWE Title? Or will a three-count for Orton signal the end of Cena’s WWE career? Find out by tuning in to Survivor Series, Nov. 21, only on pay-per-view.

Randy Orton Says He Would Never Quit WWE

The latest issue of WWE Magazine, which hits newsstands next Tuesday, features a candid interview with Randy Orton. The interview was formatted for the reigning WWE Champion to finish a variety of open-ended statements. Highlights from the interview are as follows:
The difference between a good match and a great match in WWE is always...
How I leave the live audience and how they respond or react. At this past SummerSlam, Sheamus and I had what I consider to be a very good match—the crowd, however, was just kind of down. It was weird. If we contested that same match a month earlier or a week later, even in the same arena, the reaction might've been 10 times louder. Even though a match is technically good, if it's the last one during a three-hour show...well, sometimes the crowd is spent.
The biggest improvement I have made in the ring since my debut is...
That my confidence level has gone up. I'd have to say that that's one of the most important attributes to have in this business. If you're not confident in yourself and your abilities, as soon as you walk through the curtain, the fans can sense that right away.
The best part about Twitter is...
It lets fans know who Randy Orton really is. There are a lot of fans out there who think I'm an arrogant jerk, or hard to talk to. It's humanized me a little more, which may or may not be a good thing.
At WrestleMania XXVII I want to...
Win. Hopefully I'll still be the champion. I think I'd like to face John Cena. We started in OVW together 10 years ago and came up through the ranks. We have quite the history, of course. I think that the two of us going at it at 'Mania would be epic. We have so many things in common and, at the same time, there's so much contrast between us as well.
If I quit WWE tomorrow, on my last day I would...
That's impossible to answer, on the grounds that I'd never quit under any circumstances.

31 Things I Love About Halloween: Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins

Is there any better candy on the face of the planet? I don't know why these taste better than regular Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, but they do.

The only possible competition might be the new Butterfinger Pumpkins. I haven't tried those yet, but I'll let you know.

Update: Just tried the Butterfinger Pumpkin and Reese's holds on to its crown. The Butterfinger one is just solid chocolate with Butterfinger chips stirred into it, not a pumpkin-shaped Butterfinger. No contest.

WWE celebrates 10 years of trading on the New York Stock Exchange

WWE takes stock, 10 years later

For any member of the WWE Universe who has ever wanted to own a piece of World Wrestling Entertainment, October 25, 2000 proved to be a banner day. That Wednesday in lower Manhattan, to great fanfare, the company went public on The New York Stock Exchange.

In the years following that successful public offering, WWE has grown into a truly global phenomenon. At the time, there were two branded WWE programs, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown. The roster of programs has now doubled with the addition of “WWE Superstars” and WWE NXT. The company’s pay-per-view events have also become more innovative. Since 2000, with the inclusion of Hell in a Cell and Elimination Chamber, WWE’s pay-per-views have generated an average of approximately $100 million in revenue and more than $5 million buys annually.

WWE also continues to expand their presence in untapped overseas markets. During the summer, the company undertook several international tours, including an unprecedented show in Shanghai, China. Moving forward, WWE looks forward to showcasing more of their product in that region as well as other uncharted territories.

The company extended their reach further into feature films with WWE Studios. Since 2000, the studio has generated seven movies, with several more scheduled for upcoming release. The latest effort to unspool on the silver screen is Knucklehead, starring WWE SuperstarBig Show.

And lastly, WWE remains a pioneer in digital media. In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, “WWE” remained in the top three of the most popular Yahoo! Search terms. Many of those searches were directed to WWE.com, the company’s official website. In the first quarter of 2010, WWE.com averaged 13.2 million monthly unique visitors worldwide, generated 413.4 million page views and provided more than 30.3 million monthly video streams.

Although WWE has greatly expanded its footprint both domestically and abroad to offer ever more dynamic forms of entertainment over the past decade, the company continues to leverage other avenues of growth. With innovative new technologies and exciting new Superstars yet to be discovered, WWE is eager to provide stock holders with even more reasons to look forward to the decade ahead.

31 Things I Love About Halloween: Cupcakes

I know. I know. It's always time for cupcakes. I agree. Especially since I learned how to make a cupcake sandwich by taking the bottom part of the cake off and putting it on top of the frosting. It's the only way to eat a cupcake.

Halloween's a special time for cupcakes though. Whether they're brought to school with orange frosting and black (preferably bat-shaped, as above) sprinkles or the fancy monster-faced creations that your favorite bakery comes up with, it's not Halloween until you have one.

Productive Member of Society and all that

I'm sorry I didn't get a Land of the Lost post up yesterday. I'm sure I mentioned at some point that I was laid off last Spring. In the interest of keeping things fun around here, I haven't talked about that whole experience (and I'm not starting now), but I'm very pleased to report that it's come to an end. The reason I didn't post yesterday was that I spent the afternoon filling out paperwork to begin a new job that I'm pretty excited about.

Land of the Lost will return next week.

Youtube Video Idea's needed.

The last video i posted on my youtube channel was the day after the live smackdown, this was 3 weeks ago. I need some idea's on video's you would like to see and who of, if theres a match or event a WWE diva has a thong slip or some other kind of wardrobe malfunction send me it, you will get credited for your idea's.

I seen a video of Lita in the shower, you can see her bare ass at one stage when you pause quick. Also there was a match on SD were Layla's tights came fully down, but WWE changed the camera angle so we don't get a clear shot.

Smackdown - 29th Oct 2010 News and Predictions

Kane will be hosting a "funeral" for The Undertaker, did he not do that before? after the last buried alive match (SS2003) on  a Smackdown? Im going to predict that Edge will be his next challenger, since he won Smackdown the trophy. Rey and Alberto's fued looks like its going to continue, maybe even a Big Show vs Del Rio fued? Hopefully a new Divas fued is starting, maybe with Beth? I would love to see Kelly in the title picture again, i enjoyed that rivalry back in summer. No other comments on Smackdown this week.

Raw - 25th October 2010

Wasn't the greatest Raw, honestly i expected something big like HHH returning or something. The ending was good and it sets up an interesting match at Survivor Series, its good that theres 2 new members of Nexus, i didn't think they were much of a threat with only 4 people (+John Cena) and the agenda of Nexus has to be about Undertakers streak and the WWE title, i read a report saying either Cena, Kane or Barrett would face Taker at WM27 maybe Barrett will be WWE champion at WM and defend it against Taker? or Cena promised Barrett the WWE title if he could get help in getting rid of Undertaker or maybe Kane made this deal, can't wait to find out. I liked seeing Santino beat Sheamus, Santino might be getting a bit of a push, he's no longer with Kozlov or dealing with The Uso's... i think. Why was John Morrison down there, he didn't do much. Byran and Dolph has another good match, looks like CM Punk and Byran will start a fued that will be good to watch. The Divas had 2 mins of on air time, joke, an even bigger joke was how they beat Melina (the best diva in the WWE) in one minute. The Hart Dynasty weren't on Raw. The only reason why Eve came down was to promote the SVR2011 game (which looks great), Eve and The Miz were the only Superstar and Diva to actually give interviews promoting the game with the game creators. People might type their names into the internet and that will be the first thing to come up. Not a bad match with R-Truth, Eves slap on Riley was good, i don't know what they have planned with The Miz now, maybe captain of a Survivor Series team? No Goldust or DiBiase either, Cena vs Orton was a good match, shame how it ended but yet again smart thinking.

What happened after RAW

Following last night's RAW broadcast in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Randy Orton defeated Wade Barrett to retain the WWE Championship.

WWE RAW results [October 25,2010]

John Cena def. WWE Champion Randy Orton by Disqualification (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Turnabout, meet fair play. One night earlier, Wade Barrett had defeated WWE Champion Randy Orton by disqualification at WWE Bragging Rights thanks to John Cena. Tonight, the Englishman made certain Cena won his match against Orton by the very same means.
No, Barrett wasn’t really helping Cena, per se – he was helping himself. You see, earlier in the evening, Raw’s anonymous GM arranged a no disqualifications, no count-outs Match, featuring a special guest referee, in four weeks at Survivor Series between Barrett and Orton for the WWE Title. Were The Viper to win, he would choose the referee. If Cena were to win, however, the fester from Manchester would choose, which is precisely what happened.
After Barrett ambushed The Nexus’ reluctant warrior, the rest of the outlaws, including Nexus' newest members, Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty, charged the ring to attack Orton. Cena fought them off before Barrett exercised his right to select the guest referee for his championship match against WWE’s Apex Predator. In a shrewd stroke, the Nexus leader chose Cena, but not without thickening the plot. Barrett added that if he wins the WWE Title at Survivor Series, Cena is free from The Nexus. However, if he does not win the championship, Cena will be fired!

Bragging Rights 2010 thoughts.

Im sure as most of you know by now, i predicted the buried alive match exactly correct, it didn't end the show which i wasn't happy with it should have. Bragging Rights was VERY good, best PPV since MITB.

Dolph Ziggler vs Daniel Byran

I really enjoyed this match, as the moves were great and the submissions were great like i said they would be and that Byran would make Ziggler tap out, Byran can have a 5* match with anyone.

Drew & Cody vs Nexus (Cena and Otunga)

No one seen this coming, when Barrett came down i thought it would be Slater and Otunga, i will admit at this stage i was thinking Barrett could win the WWE tonight, boring match, interesting what happens now with the titles, can anyone in Nexus defend them?

Goldust vs Ted DiBiase

This match wasn't too bad, i enjoyed Aksana's dress being pushed up to high, though she wasn't wearing anything revealing. There was also an upskirt Maryse shot, i predicted that Ted would win and get his belt back i was half right.

Layla vs Natayla

This match wasn't too bad, the crowd was completely dead for this match, Natayla tried to get the crowd in it and got no reaction. It seemed Michelle pulled Natayla's tights down too low, Layla is starting to impress me.

Kane vs Undertaker

I TOLD YOU! I said Kane would win due to Nexus, I think WWE should make John Cena behind this and have it revealed he came up with Nexus this would set up a WM27 match between him and Taker, i did read a report saying this wasn't the orginal plans cause Undertaker got injured, i read another saying he would be back around Royal Rumble. I really enjoyed the match, its a match we will remember, the question now is "Who is Kane going to lose the title to and when?" if its not Undertaker who else could it be? I say he will face Edge next or Big Show for the title. Im actually watching that Buried Alive match right now again, the crowd were chanting "we want blood" at the start, the end of the match was good with Kane ordering the crane to dump the dirt, i don't think they angled that well, it looked 3/4 full (the grave) the ground wasn't flat. But WWE are we supposed to believe Undertaker was in that grave for the rest of the night during the other matches? trap door below most likely. This is why it should have been the last match of the night instead of a DQ finish. This wasn't a PG match. Just watched Kane knock Taker in the grave again there now. The urn was also buried note that. Also note how Kane was able to get rid of Nexus?

Team Raw vs Team Smackdown

Im gutted i predicted this match wrong, have to go another year thinking about getting this wrong. Its sad how weak WWE made Raw throughout this storyline. I was right about Santino going out first and Kofi going out early because of Sheamus. I knew Alberto would last long, they should have let The Miz win this. Strange it being Rey and Edge be the last two. Former Tag Champs. WWE even made Raw the heel team by having Zeke, The Miz , CM Punk vs Rey and Edge end it. Big Show should have got pinned by Sheamus, it would have added more to the match. Good match i must say.

Randy Orton vs Wade Barrett

Cena outsmarted me in this match, smart planning. But since this was a DQ this should have been before the Team Raw vs SD match, not good ending a PPV this way. If Cena wasn't at ringside, i probably wouldn't have watched this match, Barrett is very boring in the ring, he's great on the mic not sure about his in ring skills. Not much to say on Orton to be honest, it looks like this fued isn't over. The PPV should not have ended with Randy Orton.

31 Things I Love About Halloween: Kids Costumes

These are the best costumes of all. Pets and grown-ups can have cool costumes too, but the kids are what it's all about.

Trick or Treating is kind of a genius thing - and, again, I'll have more to say about this later - and one of the best parts of it is the bartering of services. You provide candy; the kids entertain you with their costumes. It's a great contract and everybody wins. Can't wait to see who comes by this year.

Halta, Definizione, lets you look at Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" up close, like you've never seen it before. The site can be slow to load, but wow once it does!! You can zoom in and work your way around the entire canvas studying the base drawing, paint applications and color. Woosie.
I've seen the painting in person, but even then, I didn't see it like this. And there are several paintings available on Halta which you can study like this. Almost as good as being there. (You still can't smell the paint.)

WWE Bragging Rights 2010 coverage [October 24,2010]

MINNEAPOLIS - Wade Barrett had taken out the ultimate insurance policy – or so he thought. During his WWETitle Match against champion Randy Orton, the leader of The Nexus ordered John Cena to remain in his corner. Although Barrett felt confident that he had covered his bases, his reluctant disciple managed to essentially outsmart him and deny the Englishman’s claim, allowing Orton to retain. (PHOTOS)

To further ensure a victory, the Englishman dropped a bombshell prior to the bout: If he were to lose the match, Cena would be fired from WWE. The ultimatum staggered Cena, who had captured the WWE Tag Team Titles with David Otunga earlier in the evening. Could Cena really further the ambitions of such a loathsome individual? And if he refused, could he possibly cope with being terminated from the company he loves, forbidden from competing in a WWE ring?

An opportunity would eventually reveal itself in the glimmer of a snake’s eye. Midway through the match, the referee was knocked unconscious. Taking advantage, the remaining three members of Nexus rushed the ring to attack Orton. They were quickly chased off by Cena, who explained that he was trying to save Barrett from being disqualified. As the contest progressed and fatigue washed over Barrett, Orton prepared to unleash an RKO. Just as he coiled himself, however, Cena recognized his opening.

Cena, who had been forced to join Nexus after losing at Hell in a Cell, pushed Orton aside and hoisted Barrett atop his shoulders. For a moment, it appeared as if Cena had suffered enough abuse and was going to avenge himself with an Attitude Adjustment. When the Englishman came crashing to the canvas, however, Cena’s brilliant method suddenly revealed itself.

He had ensured Barrett’s victory by disqualification – and saved his career in the process. Although the Englishman had officially prevailed, a title cannot change hands due to a disqualification. Perhaps The Viper should have been relieved, but there’s no reasoning with a furious snake. Instead, Orton leveled both Barrett and his unwilling lackey with a poetic pair of RKOs.

The outcome ensures that Orton remains WWE Champion, that Cena will not be terminated from WWE and that Barrett will be more determined than ever to make his reluctant disciple’s life a living hell.

31 Things I Love About Halloween: Boo Blast

This is a great Twin Cities tradition. One of the nicer grocery chains around here is Lunds & Byerly's. Every year, they host a Boo Blast, where kids get to go to the stores in costume to Trick or Treat the various departments. They can pick up fruit in Produce, milk in Dairy, and chips and soda pop in Grocery. I forget what they give out in the Deli and Meat departments, but it's cool. The tour always ends in the Bakery where kids get to decorate their own cookie to take home.

All the employees dress in costume too and it makes a great dry run for Halloween night. That's the best part of it: they don't run it on Halloween in competition with actual Trick or Treating. It's usually sometime the week before with the day varying from store to store (there's a schedule on the chain's website). I understand why a lot of parents take their kids Trick or Treating at malls, grocery stores, and church parking lots on Halloween night, but I think it's a missed opportunity to get out and meet your neighbors. I'll have more to say about that later in the week.

Picture of Me on This Day

I apologize for cramming the whole weekend's posting schedule into Monday morning. It was a busy weekend of apple orcharding, pumpkin farming, and Spooky Joe making. It's going to be a crazy week too, but hopefully I'll be able to stay on top of things.

This post is another item from Calvin's List, by the way.

Twin Cities Adventure: Geek Meet-Ups

If you live in the Twin Cities and enjoy nerdy activities, but either a) don't find out about them soon enough or b) don't have anyone to go to them with, I have good news. There's a Meetup Group called Geeks, Nerds, Dweebs, Dorks & Other Assorted Social Misfits whose sole mission is to get self-proclaimed nerds together for some group fun.

A couple of my family members run the group and I've volunteered to "host" meetups at comics functions like the MCBA conventions and MIX and whatever else cool that comes up. There's a lot more than just comics though, including improv comedy, scavenger hunts, karaoke, sushi crawls, and the ubiquitous Much Much More. Well worth checking out.

Bragging Rights Predictions

The build up to Bragging Rights has been great i have really had to think hard about these predictions and i even think a Wrestlemania 27 fued could start tonight, see how yours match and post a comment on my youtube channel on your thoughts and predictions. I think Bragging Rights 2010 will be great!

United States Champion vs Intercontinental Champion
Daniel Bryan  vs Dolph Ziggler

This match will most likely open the show, i think this could be a good match. Expect Ziggler to dominate most of the match we might see some high flying moves and submission holds. However i see Raw getting the win in this match by having Byran make Ziggler tap out.

 Divas Title MatchNatalya vs. Layla
WWE

If Byran wins, the match with Ziggler, theres no chance of Layla not winning. Natayla will not win the title tonight, Layla will get help from Michelle to win this match, hopefully this is the end of this fued. Boring match i predict.

WWE Title MatchWade Barrett with John Cena vs Randy Orton

This is a hard match to predict, i don't think the in ring action will be good, but i think the ending of this match will be exciting. I don't think the rest of Nexus will be at ringside, Cena has to do something that will affect the result of this match. I will say.... Orton will win this match i can see Cena costing Barrett the match maybe by mistake, i think there is still a chance Barrett could win this.  This won't be the last time you will see Nexus that night I predict.

Team RAW vs. Team SmackDown Elimination MatchThe Miz, Sheamus, R-Truth, John Morrison, CM Punk, Ezekiel Jackson and Santino Marella vs. Big Show, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, Alberto Del Rio and Tyler Reks

I will do this in order of elimination
1st Out - Santino  (he will be eliminated quickly)
2nd Out - Tyler Reks. (soon after Santino)
3rd Out - Kofi Kingston (Sheamus will eliminate Kofi)
4th Out - R-Truth
5th Out- Zeke Jackson
6th Out - CM Punk
7th Out - Jack Swagger
8th Out - Edge (Swagger will attack Edge)

So I think it will come down to The Miz, Sheamus, John Morrison vs The Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio.

9th Out - Alberto Del Rio (Morrison will get the pin)
10th Out - John Morrison (Alberto will attack him)
11th Out - The Big Show (Sheamus will eliminate him)
12th Out - Rey Mysterio. (The Miz gets the final pinfall)

So i think Team Raw will win with The Miz and Sheamus still in the match, they have been pushing Smackdown too much lately, i this is why Raw will win. Plus The winning captain has to be a heel so they can brag, plus I think it would add more to Michael Coles character. I have thought hard about this match, i was wrong last year so i want to be right this year. This should be an exciting match.

Buried Alive Match for the World Heavyweight TitleThe Undertaker vs. Kane with Paul Bearer
This is one of the reasons im a fan of Bragging Rights, it seems every year they are going to do a match no one seen coming. Last year the Ironman match was awesome. I hope this match is good, the HIAC match was boring, I have thought really hard about this match and I think Kane will retain the title, i have my reasons for this. Firstly I read that Undertaker is taking a break after Bragging Rights, however i can see those reports not being true, also a Kane win would do great for Kanes career after Taker retires at WM27 (probably), I think Kane will get help to win this match not from Paul Bearer but from Nexus!! I think Nexus should help Kane bury Taker, then reveal that John Cena was behind this. This would set up a John Cena vs Undertaker match at Wrestlemania, turn Cena heel, make Kanes career better and give Taker a break this is a great idea, i should be a WWE writer. I suggest you should watch the Vince McMahon vs Undertaker match from Survivor Series 2003 and then compare it to this match, hopefully this match works since its PG, I hope Kane wins this match but I think tonight will end with Nexus and John Cena.

Marketing - Think outside the... hay!

I've been teaching Drawing and Advanced Illustration at the University of Georgia this semester and one of the biggest challenges for the students has been to come up with new ways to advertise very old or overdone ideas. It's hard to do. But then I found this...

Thanks to Rasco from Reading is Fundamental (RIF) for the link!

The Undertaker interviewed at UFC121

Undertaker was spotted (with Michelle McCool) at last nights UFC 121 event, in which Brock Lesnar lost. He was interviewed about his thoughts of that result and he is even confronted by Brock during the interview.

31 Things I Love About Halloween: Bobbing for Apples

This is one of those things where I love the idea of it more than I love actually doing it. It's such a Halloween staple that nostalgia kicks in whenever I think about it, but I've never really enjoyed plunging my head into cold water. And the only way I've ever been able to retrieve an apple is by grabbing the stem with my teeth, which some people think is cheating.

FallCon Report

Sorry it's taken me so long to get a report up about FallCon. This week's been crazy and next will be even more insane as we get ready for Halloween. The show was a great success though.

I had David with me this year and we met Grant Gould for breakfast before the show. The conversation revolved heavily around Aliens and Predators, two of David's favorite topics right now, and David and I continued the discussion in the car on the way over to the fairgrounds. We were delighted then to find this fellow lurking around, hunting down some great deals on comics (ba-dum ching).

More costumes and the rest of the report after the break:

The crowd was insane in the morning. FallCon used to be a two-day show and the MCBA held a smaller, one-day show in the Spring called MicroCon. They changed that this year, expanding MicroCon to a two-day SpringCon and scaling FallCon back to one day. I went in expecting MicroCon level crowds, but that wasn't what we got. MicroCon was always on a Sunday and FallCon was on Saturday, so maybe that had something to do with it, but the place was packed all morning and I sold a lot more Cownt Tales comics than I expected to.

I also got to catch up with a couple of my favorite cosplayers and check out their new costumes. I don't know this girl's name, but she works for one of the dealers who always comes to MCBA shows and she's always got a cool new costume. She was Belle from Beauty and the Beast at last year's FallCon and this year she was Wednesday Addams.

I think this was the first time I've recognized Meagan Vanburkleo in costume before she said hello to me. I'm getting better.

She had two costumes for the show. Both were Black Canary, but she did this recent, Birds of Prey look...

...as well as this classic costume.

I don't know these two - or even if they're a couple - but if they were to have babies, the beauty of those children would bring World Peace.

The crowds thinned out in the afternoon, which made for a nice break and let David and I check out the rest of the show. We picked up a cool dinosaur poster from Zander Cannon in support of his new book Evolution: The Story of Life on Earth. We also spent some time talking to Martin Powell, a great writer and one of the most knowledgeable people around about all things Pulp. And - we learned - a former paleontologist. One of these days I have to take Martin to lunch and learn more about that part of his career history. In the meantime, we picked up three of Martin's books: The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor, his adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles, and Batman: The Fog of Fear.

I also got this cool Valkyrie drawing from Paul Taylor. My scanner's not big enough to get the whole thing, but you get the idea...

The MCBA has a lot more photos from the show in their Facebook album and there was also a write-up for Minnesota Daily.

The MCBA has also announced the dates for the next two shows. SpringCon 2011 will be May 21 and 22; FallCon will be October 15.
